Fee Agreements: A Lawyer's Most Effective Tool to Manage Expectations, Protect Themselves, and Get Paid

This program is designed to highlight specific ethical concerns when drafting fee agreements and to show that a well-crafted fee agreement is the best way for lawyers to protect their interests and ensure fair compensation.

1 Hour MCLE credit, including 1 hour in Legal Ethics

Lawyers love jumping into the facts and legal issues of a new matter, but may not give the client fee agreement the attention it deserves. By giving the fee agreement short shrift, lawyers miss the best opportunity they have to thoughtfully define the scope of services and highlight the nuances of the particular lawyer-client relationship. Program participants will learn how to draft strong fee agreements and to avoid ethical pitfalls. The topics covered will include:

  • Compliance with New Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Varying Requirements for Different Fee Agreements
  • Best Practices for Defining Scope of Services
  • Disclosing Malpractice Insurance
  • Addressing Potential Mediation
